Sync in DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve makes syncing timecode-embedded files quick and easy.

Import Your Files

  1. Open DaVinci Resolve
  2. Create or open a project
  3. Import all PixelRecorder files to Media Pool
  4. Files appear with timecode metadata

Create Multicam Clip

Method 1: Right-Click Menu

  1. Select all clips to sync in Media Pool
  2. Right-click selected clips
  3. Choose Create New Multicam Clip Using Selected Clips
  4. In the dialog:
    • Set clip name
    • Choose Timecode for sync method
    • Verify angle names
  5. Click Create

Method 2: Clip Menu

  1. Select clips in Media Pool
  2. Go to Clip > Create New Multicam Clip Using Selected Clips
  3. Configure as above

Verify Sync

  1. Double-click the multicam clip
  2. View in Source Viewer
  3. Check audio/video alignment
  4. All sources should be frame-accurate

Edit with Multicam

In Cut/Edit Page

  1. Place multicam clip on timeline
  2. Right-click > Switch Multicam Clip Angle
  3. Choose which source to show
  4. Or use angle numbers (1, 2, 3…)

Live Switching

  1. Open multicam clip in viewer
  2. Play timeline
  3. Click angle buttons to switch
  4. Cuts are recorded in real-time

Audio Sync

For separate audio files (BWF):

  1. Include BWF files when creating multicam
  2. Resolve reads embedded timecode
  3. Audio aligns automatically
  4. Route audio as needed in Fairlight

Tips

Project Settings

Match your project to recording settings:

  • Frame rate: Same as recordings
  • Timeline resolution: Match or scale

Color Grading

  • Grade on compound/multicam clip
  • Changes apply to all angles
  • Or grade individual angles separately

Audio Mixing

  • Extract audio to separate tracks
  • Mix in Fairlight page
  • Maintain original sync

Troubleshooting

Clips Won’t Sync

Check frame rates match

  • All clips should have same frame rate
  • Project frame rate should match

Verify timecode exists

  • Right-click clip > Clip Attributes
  • Check Timecode field has value

Check timecode overlaps

  • Clips must have overlapping timecode
  • Use timeline to verify

Wrong Sync Point

If clips sync but at wrong point:

  1. Check start timecode settings
  2. Verify all recordings started together
  3. Manually adjust if needed
