Quick Start
This guide walks you through recording your first video with PixelRecorder.
Step 1: Launch PixelRecorder
Open PixelRecorder from your Applications folder or Spotlight.
Step 2: Select What to Record
In the main window, choose what you want to capture:
- Screen - Record your entire display or a specific window
- Camera - Add a picture-in-picture camera feed (optional)
- Audio - Select microphone and/or system audio
Step 3: Configure Settings
Before recording, check your settings:
- Click the Settings icon
- Choose your preferred output folder
- Select the video codec (H.264 for compatibility, HEVC for quality)
- Enable timecode if you need frame-accurate sync in your NLE
Step 4: Start Recording
- Click the Record button
- A countdown appears (configurable in settings)
- Recording begins - you will see a timer in the menu bar
Step 5: Stop Recording
To stop recording:
- Click the Stop button in the menu bar, or
- Use the keyboard shortcut (default: Cmd+Shift+R)
Your recording is saved to your configured output folder.
