macOS Permissions
PixelRecorder requires specific macOS permissions to access your screen, camera, and microphone. This guide explains how to grant these permissions.
Required Permissions
Screen Recording
Screen Recording permission is required to capture your display.
To grant:
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording
- Find PixelRecorder in the list
- Toggle the switch to enable
- Restart PixelRecorder if prompted
Camera
Camera permission is required for webcam recording.
To grant:
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera
- Find PixelRecorder in the list
- Toggle the switch to enable
Microphone
Microphone permission is required for audio recording.
To grant:
- Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone
- Find PixelRecorder in the list
- Toggle the switch to enable
First Launch
When you first open PixelRecorder, macOS will prompt you for permissions:
- Click Allow for screen recording when prompted
- Click Allow for camera access when prompted
- Click Allow for microphone access when prompted
If you accidentally click “Don’t Allow”, you can grant permissions manually in System Settings.
Troubleshooting
Permission Not Appearing
If PixelRecorder doesn’t appear in the permission list:
- Make sure you’ve opened PixelRecorder at least once
- Try removing and re-adding the app
- Restart your Mac
Permission Changes Not Taking Effect
After changing permissions:
- Quit PixelRecorder completely
- Reopen the app
- Permissions should now work
